Man Engages in Lewd Acts Against 8-Year-Old Girl Taking Advantage of Parents' Absence

In the Tavush regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee, circumstances surrounding lewd acts committed against an 8-year-old girl have been established following measures taken in an ongoing criminal case. Specifically, it has been determined that a 58-year-old resident of Tavush, while in an intoxicated state on May 27, 2022, took advantage of the absence of the child's parents, who had left home, to commit lewd acts against the young girl.

However, a neighbor, hearing the child's cries for help, intervened. A criminal case has been initiated based on the second part of the third item of Article 142 of the RA Criminal Code. The child has been recognized as a victim, and the child's mother has been designated as the representative of the victim.

The 58-year-old man has been arrested. During the preliminary investigation, necessary investigative and procedural actions have been carried out, including seizures and the questioning of several individuals, including the 58-year-old man.

Based on the sufficient evidence obtained, charges have been brought against him under the second part of the third item of Article 142 of the RA Criminal Code. The investigative body has submitted a petition to the court to apply pre-trial detention as a preventive measure, which has been granted by the court's decision. The investigation is ongoing.
