How Much Was Spent on COVID Treatment in Armenia in 2021: Minister Comments
In 2021, 27.7 billion drams were spent from Armenia's budget for the fight against coronavirus. This was stated in the report on the implementation of the 2021 state budget, which is currently being discussed in the Armenian parliament. Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan noted that this is about 5 percent more than the expenditures in 2020.
“During the peak period of disease spread, we conducted up to 20,000 vaccinations daily,” she said. In addition to the batches of vaccines that the Ministry of Health received for free from other countries, 7.4 billion drams were allocated for the purchase of vaccines. The remaining funds were spent on staff training and supporting infectious disease hospitals.
Furthermore, in 2021, when the rates of coronavirus began to decline, the incidence of seasonal flu increased. While in previous years, the flu wave began in September, in 2021 it started a month earlier, in August.
