Traffic Jams Continue at Lars: Armenian Embassy in Georgia Clarifies

Traffic congestion of trucks continues at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Georgia-Russia border, although in the last three days the jams have relatively decreased.

"There have been traffic jams at the border for a considerable time. Over the past three days, about 250 Armenian trucks have crossed the border, and currently, approximately 450 vehicles are still lined up on the road coming from Tbilisi, while around 50 more are stuck on the road from Batumi," an Armenian embassy representative told Alik.

According to the embassy, the reason for the traffic jams is the increase in passenger flow, which exceeds the checkpoint's capacity. "There have been traffic jams for more than a month now, sometimes increasing, sometimes decreasing. Initially, the jams were caused by weather conditions, but later, when Russia opened the land borders for Armenian citizens, passenger traffic began to increase," the embassy reported.

Furthermore, earlier, Armenia's Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan assured that they are working every day with their Russian counterparts to quickly resolve the issue of waiting trucks at the Lars checkpoint. The minister noted that on June 11, they will try to understand the possibilities of increasing the capacity in Lars with their Russian colleague.
