Medvedev Speaks Out on Sanctions Against Russian Politicians' Relatives

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has criticized Western authorities for arbitrary and illegal sanctions against the relatives of Russian political figures. He expressed this in a post on his Telegram channel.

"It seems that the West has decided to recreate the best practices of the past: Let's impose sanctions, there is a double illegality. Now, according to their model, not only participants in political events—state officials or deputies—are subject to restrictions, but also their family members. If European and American legislators have decided this, it means that the family member will be held accountable—completely and without guilt. And let’s block the accounts of family members, seize their property, and not allow them to cross the border to the West," he stated.

Medvedev ironically remarked that it is now "possible to predict the acceptance of other progressive rules for families by the West in the future as well."

"For example, there are many useful things in the traditions of the Italian ‘Ndrangheta and Cosa Nostra. Or you can delve into history. Remember the laws of Hamurabi. There, as you know, for the death of a master’s son due to a poorly constructed building, the builder could have his son killed," the deputy head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation noted.
