The Parties Confirm No Extraterritorial Claims Exist: EU
During a meeting in Brussels on May 22 between Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a specific focus was placed on the issues of communications and unblocking the region. Both sides confirmed that there are no extraterritorial claims regarding future transport infrastructure. Any contrary speculation is regrettable,” stated Barend Leyts, spokesperson for the President of the European Council, in a statement released late last night.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, the President of Azerbaijan claimed that Armenia had agreed to Azerbaijan's agenda for relationship normalization, which notably lacks any mention of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. He also made other assertions, particularly concerning the “Zangezur corridor,” referencing a statement by Charles Michel following a recent trilateral meeting in Brussels, where, however, no such agreements were noted.
