Judges Unable to Review Cases: 'Zhoghovurd'
'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports that the Supreme Judicial Council has developed a new draft concerning the process of electing judges.
'Zhoghovurd' has learned that the Council proposes to include the option of electing judges specifically for reviewing acts related to judicial oversight and operational-investigative measures directly in the Constitutional Law on the Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia, as a separate authority reserved for it.
The justification states that several issues have arisen in the Court of Appeals regarding the workload of judges reviewing acts related to judicial oversight during pre-trial criminal proceedings and operational-investigative measures. Cases of this nature require immediate examination as prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, which is often unfeasible due to the limited number of judges handling such cases.
Consequently, there is a need to consider involving additional judges from the current composition of judges examining criminal cases in the Appeals Court when necessary. It is possible that this necessity arose after the actions of the opposition when more criminal cases were initiated, resulting in judges being unable to keep up with them.
