"They are simply mocking the parents and bringing them for a 30-minute meeting": Karin Tonoyan

The parents of fallen servicemen have once again gone to the Supreme Judicial Council and met with acting president of the Council, Gagik Jhangiryan. Today, the Court of Appeal, presided over by Judge Karen Bisharyan, postponed the examination of the complaint against the decision not to initiate criminal proceedings against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Before deciding to postpone, the closed-door meeting lasted only 30 minutes.

After the meeting, the parents went to the Supreme Judicial Council to express their protest. Karin Tonoyan, one of the parents, told reporters that Jhangiryan stated he had a phone conversation with the judge, who said he had not yet had time to consider the petition that concerned the parents.

“The judge said he had not yet had time to consider the request to hold the hearings in open session. But how is it possible that in such a criminal case, which concerns thousands of victims, only 30 minutes is allotted? They are simply mocking the parents and bringing them for a 30-minute meeting,” Tonoyan said.

According to him, Jhangiryan mentioned that during the day a judge reviews 21 cases lasting half an hour each. Tonoyan added that if this continues, it will drag on until 2050.

He also informed that Jhangiryan promised that the hearings would be longer in the future and that the issue of conducting the next meeting immediately in open session would be discussed.
