Azerbaijan's President Shares Details of Security Council Meeting
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that an emergency meeting of the National Security Council was convened on May 25 at the request of the political parties in the Parliament of Artsakh, chaired by President Arayik Harutyunyan.
He emphasized that the formulation regarding the "rights and security of the ethnic Armenian population of Karabakh" in the statement by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, is completely unacceptable for the authorities and people of Artsakh. He noted that it does not reflect the clearly articulated demands and aspirations of the Armenian people of Artsakh over the past 30 years, which are grounded in the right to self-determination.
Our sources in Artsakh report that during the Security Council meeting, Harutyunyan presented details of his meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following discussions in Brussels and expressed nearly the same thoughts that Pashinyan articulated during a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly.
He assured that Pashinyan did not renounce the status of Artsakh in Brussels, and that President of the European Council, Charles Michel, attempted to create the impression through his comments on the negotiations that the discussion concerns not the status of Artsakh, but rather the issue of "rights and security of ethnic Armenians living in Karabakh." President Harutyunyan reiterated several times that Nikol Pashinyan conveyed to him that he cannot ignore the position of Artsakh and make independent decisions.
