VIDEO: What Did Pashinyan and Montenegro's President Discuss?

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hosted a delegation led by Montenegro's President Milo Djukanovic, who arrived in Armenia on an official visit. This information has been reported by the Prime Minister's press service. It is noted that Prime Minister Pashinyan discussed issues of economic cooperation with the President of Montenegro.

Welcoming the guests to the capital Yerevan, Pashinyan stated, "We attach great importance to our relations with Montenegro and I am confident that your visit will provide a new impetus for the further development of our relations. I gladly acknowledge that, in fact, there have been established relations between our capitals for quite some time, and a memorandum on the establishment of those relations was signed back in 1978. I hope that in this new environment, when our countries have independent status, we will be able to properly develop inter-state relations and deepen economic ties. I must admit that today we have little to boast about in this regard. Honorable Mr. President, esteemed colleagues, I welcome you once again to our capital and am confident that you will have a good and impressive visit.”

In turn, Milo Djukanovic expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted, "I am very happy to be here, because as I explained to the Minister of Economy and the Mayor of Yerevan, I was able to come here during school age through an exchange program between Titograd and Yerevan and spend some time in Yerevan. I have very good memories. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to visit your beautiful country during this time, and I am happy to be here. As I said, the first cooperation took place when our countries were part of larger states—the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. Now we are in a new political reality as independent states and I am confident that we are both interested and able to deepen this cooperation.

Montenegro is a small country and I believe small countries may have a more urgent need or it is politically more important to be active.

Our main goal of foreign policy is European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Of course, we are also monitoring what is happening in your region and would like to establish close cooperation with the Eurasian region, as there are already traditional relations between our countries.”

The interlocutors discussed issues related to the development of cooperation in the economy, particularly in the fields of information technology, tourism, and agriculture. Both sides expressed interest in efforts to expand business ties, increase trade volumes, and promote the implementation of joint investment projects. Nikol Pashinyan and Milo Djukanovic exchanged views on processes occurring in the South Caucasus.

The Prime Minister presented the Armenian side's position regarding the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The conversation also touched on processes taking place in the international arena.
