NATO has an unofficial black list for arms supplies to Kyiv: DPA

There are informal agreements among NATO countries regarding the abstention from supplying certain weapon systems to Ukraine. This was reported on Wednesday by the German DPA agency, citing sources within NATO.

According to the agency, the risk of direct military confrontation between NATO countries and Russia must be minimized. It is also noted that there are concerns within the alliance that, for example, Russia may officially view the supply of Western tanks and combat aircraft as involvement in the conflict, and then take retaliatory military actions. DPA reports that these types of weapon systems have not yet been delivered to Ukraine.

In turn, according to the agency, on Wednesday, a NATO representative commented on this information only in general terms. He emphasized that all decisions regarding the supply of weapons ultimately belong to individual member states of the alliance. Diplomats say that so far they have adhered to informal agreements also for fear that otherwise they would not receive full support from their allied partners in case of an attack. For this reason, Poland, for example, according to DPA, refrained from supplying Soviet-made MiG-29 fighters to Kyiv more than two months ago.

In conclusion, it is noted that NATO continuously monitors the developments in Ukraine and reassesses the possible risks associated with supplying arms to Kyiv. Thus, as DPA notes, it cannot be excluded that at some point tanks and fighters may be transferred to Ukraine.
