Armenian President Discusses Charles Michel's Statement

The authorities and people of Artsakh find the phrasing in the statement by European Council President Charles Michel regarding the "rights and security of the ethnic Armenian population of Karabakh" to be completely unacceptable. This statement was made by Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan during a meeting of the Security Council.

Harutyunyan mentioned that this statement does not reflect the clearly defined demands and aspirations of the Armenian people of Artsakh that have been articulated to the international community over the past thirty years, which are fundamentally based on the right to self-determination of peoples.

According to Harutyunyan, he had the opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister of Armenia and discuss the meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev that took place in Brussels on May 22. He wants to once again emphasize that the exclusive right to determine the fate and status of Artsakh belongs to the people and authorities of Artsakh.

Harutyunyan also stated that Pashinyan emphasized that no one can or intends to sign any document behind the backs of the people of Armenia and Artsakh. If there are concrete proposals for specific solutions, they will be discussed with the authorities of Artsakh, and the public will be appropriately informed about it.

Harutyunyan stressed that Artsakh will steadfastly continue on the path of international recognition of its independence through the full and unconditional realization of its people's right to self-determination. He reiterated that the proper provision for the rights and security of the people of Artsakh is only possible outside of Azerbaijan.
