Video: "They will be punished in their own yard" - Former MP charged for inciting violence
The investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee in Yerevan has concluded the preliminary investigation of a criminal case initiated against former MP Aragat Akhoyan for publicly inciting violence and justifying violence.
The RA Investigative Committee reports that the thorough, objective, and multifaceted preliminary investigation revealed that on April 24, 2022, Akhoyan publicly called for violence during a live stream on his Facebook page. This was in reference to a altercation that occurred among two citizens at a rally organized by the political opposition at France Square in Yerevan around 5:00 PM that same day, caused by political views. He justified the public use of such violence.
With a sufficient combination of evidence obtained, A. Akhoyan has been charged under Article 226.2, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, and as a preventive measure, a signature not to leave has been applied to him. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been forwarded to the prosecutor overseeing the case with a request for confirmation of the accusatory conclusion and submission to court.
Notification: A suspect or accused in an alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the established procedure of the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a court decision that has become legally binding.
