The contradictory statement made by U.S. President Joe Biden regarding Taiwan's readiness to fight against China represents a dangerous mistake, according to an editorial in the British publication The Telegraph.

The article notes that American progressives have perceived the current president's ascension as the beginning of a new era in foreign policy. However, these expectations were dashed due to the failures surrounding the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan at the start of his presidential term.

“In reality, the United States has never committed to such obligations. Relations with the island are governed by a specific act that states the U.S. will provide it with such means and to such extent as necessary to maintain an adequate defensive capability,” the article states.

It is worth recalling that recently Joe Biden made another gaffe when, during his visit to Asia, he stated that the U.S. is prepared to participate in military conflict against China on Taiwan’s behalf.
