iPhone Sellers Targeted by Criminals: Police Issue Warning

The analysis of incidents recorded by the police has revealed a new mechanism for stealing money through deception. Individuals with criminal intent find advertisements for the sale of iPhone mobile phones on online marketplaces. They call the seller directly via phone or through a mobile app, asking questions related to the functionality of the mobile phone.

Then, they provide the seller with their iCloud username and password, asking the seller to input these into their phone so the buyer can supposedly verify whether the phone being sold is functional or not.

Believing in the buyer’s honesty, the seller enters the provided iCloud username and password into their phone. After that, the buyer changes the iCloud password, depriving the seller of the opportunity to use their phone fully. Additionally, the criminal can block the mobile phone at any time, delete existing information, or carry out other harmful actions.

After some time, the same individual contacts the seller again, threatening to delete the phone's data or block it unless a certain amount is sent via a terminal.

Several reports regarding similar incidents have been received at police departments. Measures are being taken to uncover the crimes.

“Dear citizens, under no circumstances should you provide your account details to unknown individuals, and do not input others’ account information on your mobile phones to avoid such situations. If you have already become a victim of such a crime, please contact the police,” urge the police.
