Father of Mikayel Galeyan Enters Military Unit and Assaults Colonel, Investigative Committee Reveals Details

Yesterday, around 14:05, a group of individuals entered the territory of N military unit illegally, disregarding the legal request of the colonel to leave the area. They insulted, pulled, and assaulted him, hitting his face with a plastic bottle. The Armenian Investigative Committee has provided details.

"An investigation is underway in the fourth garrison investigative department of the military investigative main department of the Armenian Investigative Committee regarding the illegal entry into the N military unit and the apparent use of violence against the deputy commander, as well as causing serious injury. The circumstances of the incident are being clarified.

According to preliminary data, on May 17, 2022, at around 14:05, a group of people, in violation of established procedures, entered the territory of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. During this time, they disobeyed the legitimate request of the colonel, who is the deputy commander for armament, to leave the area that relates to fulfilling his official duties, and they insulted, pulled, and assaulted him by hitting him in the face with a plastic bottle. A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of illegal entry into a military unit or other specially protected military area, causing serious injury, and using violence against a representative of the authorities. A decision has been made to assign the pre-trial investigation to the investigative group.

As a result of urgent measures taken during the investigation, the identities of three individuals who allegedly used violence against the representative of the authorities have been established, namely Garik and Arthur Galeyan, as well as a citizen named Azgush Martirosyan. One of them, Garik Galeyan, has been arrested, and based on the sufficient evidence obtained, he has been charged under part 3 of article 327.6 and part 1 of article 137.1 of the RA Criminal Code, as well as part 1 of article 316. The investigative body has decided to arrest Arthur Galeyan, and this decision has been sent to the investigative body for execution. Necessary measures are being taken to locate him and present him to the pre-trial authority. The investigation is ongoing," the statement said.

As we reported earlier, the Military Police of the Republic of Armenia has arrested Garik Galeyan. This was stated by Mikayel Galeyan's mother, Astsik Galeyan. "In the morning, military police officers visited our home and took my husband away, but the reason is unknown," said Ms. Galeyan.
