Over 250 Ukrainian Soldiers Surrender from Azovstal
More than 250 Ukrainian soldiers, including 51 wounded, have surrendered from the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. This was reported on Tuesday by the Territorial Defense Headquarters of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), as cited by TASS.
“In total, 256 Ukrainian soldiers have surrendered from the area of the Azovstal metallurgical plant, among them 51 are wounded,” the headquarters stated on its Telegram channel.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that an agreement had been reached on Monday with representatives of Ukrainian soldiers blocked in Azovstal regarding the evacuation of wounded Ukrainian servicemen from the plant. The Russian Ministry of Defense also noted that a ceasefire regime has been established in the area of the enterprise, and a humanitarian corridor has been opened for transporting wounded Ukrainian servicemen to a medical facility in Novoazovsk.
The Ukrainian side reported that on May 16, 53 severely wounded Ukrainian soldiers were evacuated from Azovstal to territory controlled by the DPR in Novoazovsk, while 211 Ukrainian soldiers were transported via a humanitarian corridor to Yelenovka (DPR).
