Engie Negotiates with Gazprom on Payment Scheme Changes
The French energy giant Engie is in talks with Gazprom regarding changes to payment schemes for Russian gas. This information was reported by RIA Novosti, citing a press release from the French company.
"At the request of Russia, Engie is negotiating with Gazprom to modify the payment scheme for the supply of Russian gas. The group has taken the necessary steps to be prepared to fulfill its payment obligations, provided it aligns with European sanctions and does not pose risks for Engie," the statement said.
In 2021, long-term contracts with Gazprom accounted for about 20% of Engie's total gas consumption and sales worldwide. Earlier, Engie CEO Jean-Pierre Clamadieu had stated that the company has yet to resolve the issue of paying for gas in rubles.
French Engie operates in the fields of electricity generation, transmission, and supply, natural gas extraction, transportation, and supply, as well as other alternative energy sources.
