Another Failure of the Health Minister: 'Zhoghovurd'

The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports: On April 28 of this year, Armenia's Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan announced at a government meeting in front of the world that the 'Saint Gregory the Illuminator' hospital would be reprofiled again and that it would open its doors as a completely renovated medical center.

The opening day of the medical center was scheduled for yesterday, May 16. Yet, May 16 arrived, and we witnessed another unfulfilled promise.

The medical center announced that due to technical issues, the 'Saint Gregory the Illuminator' medical center will not be reopening. It is unclear when it will open. 'We will announce additional information about the opening. We ask for everyone's understanding and thank you for your comprehension,' the message stated.

This means that until the reprofiling process is completed, this branch of the hospital will be completely unnecessarily funded by the state budget, as cases of the coronavirus are barely being recorded, while the medical staff fighting this infection continues to work. The hospital is making communal payments, effectively making it pointless. Every day is a burden on the state's shoulders, yet it seems this heavy burden does not concern the Minister of Health. She will be traveling to the Swiss Confederation (Geneva) from May 22-28 to participate in the 75th World Health Assembly.

We hope that before her 'voyage' to Switzerland, our health minister, who travels by helicopter to the regions of the Republic of Armenia, will fulfill her immediate mission and, finally, implement what she reported at the government meeting and at least in the near future, the 'Saint Gregory the Illuminator' Medical Center will reopen.
