Video: Criminal Case Launched Against 75-Year-Old Grandpa Zhora Who Joined Bicycle Rally, Vardevanyan

Georgi Aristakesyan, a 75-year-old participant of the "Resistance" movement, has a criminal case initiated against him, and preparations are being made to arrest him. This was stated by Aram Vardevanyan, a member of the "Resistance" movement and a deputy from the "Armenia" faction, during an open-air press conference at France Square. According to Sputnik, he characterized the actions of police officers during the acts of disobedience as a gratuitous use of force.

“In the footage, there are situations where the driver is sitting behind the wheel, not doing anything, only turning on the camera on their phone, and force is used against them to detain them. Today, force was applied against 75-year-old Georgi Aristakesyan, Grandpa Zhora, who was participating in a car rally on his bicycle. That person volunteered in three wars, and the police used force against him with six officers,” Vardevanyan stated, noting that Georgi Aristakesyan has lawyers who are working on his defense.

He emphasized that if the Republic of Armenia were an advocate of democratic values, society would not witness what the police officers have done and continue to do. The member of the "Resistance" movement highlighted that about 60-80 individuals in police uniforms are behaving in this manner, who have nothing to do with the honor, oath, and duty of a police officer. He reiterated that they are recording the personal information of each of these police officers so that they can be punished later.

Earlier, it was reported that today, 91 opposition members who arrived in the capital via car rallies on the main highways entering Yerevan were detained by the police for not complying with legal requirements.

It is worth mentioning that a wave of protests erupted in Armenia after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement regarding Artsakh. On April 13, in Parliament, he expressed regret that he had not told the people in 2018-2019 that “all our distant and close friends expect us to hand over the 7 well-known regions to Azerbaijan in one configuration or another and lower the threshold we set for the status of Artsakh.”
