Uruguay's Foreign Minister Considers Cavusoglu's Scandalous Gesture Resolved

Uruguayan Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo was summoned by the opposition to the parliament to provide explanations to the International Affairs Committee regarding Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu's gesture towards Armenians, which has been linked to the "Gray Wolves," as well as the clarifications from the Turkish ambassador in Uruguay. This was reported by Azatutyun.am.

After the meeting, Bustillo stated at a press conference that the matter is considered resolved: "Following that unexpected gesture, we immediately summoned the Turkish ambassador to the ministry, and our step in itself contains a protest and dissatisfaction according to diplomatic protocols."

The minister emphasized once again that Uruguay recognizes the Armenian Genocide and has a national policy in this regard, sharing in the pain of the Armenians, and thus, there is no explanation for such immense suffering.

Senator Lilyam Keshishyan from the opposition "Broad Front" party acknowledged the executive's prompt response but also mentioned that it would have been preferable for the Foreign Ministry to address the ambassador's clarifications and the incident with a specific and strong statement. According to her, surprisingly, the ambassador stated that the gesture is related to "Turkish pride" rather than the "Gray Wolves."
