Charges Filed Against Defense Ministry Official

The Armenian National Security Service has established sufficient evidence regarding a criminal case examined by the Anti-Corruption Committee, indicating that A.P., who served as the chief of the fuel and lubricants warehouse of one of the armed forces units of the Ministry of Defense from July 1 to December 13, 2021, embezzled fuel worth over 3 million AMD.

According to the charges, A.P., by using his official position, illegally appropriated a total of over 3 million AMD worth of fuel, including 1228 kg of diesel and 3332 kg of gasoline, along with gasoline vouchers, from the warehouse of the defense unit between October 31 and December 6, 2021.

The diesel was illegally removed from the military base and sold for 400 AMD per liter to a resident of Kotayk Province. The gasoline vouchers equivalent to 2085 liters were sold to an employee of a gas station in Yerevan, while the embezzled 3332 kg of gasoline was sold to other individuals.

A.P. has been charged under the first point of part 3 of Article 179 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. According to the source, the preliminary investigation of the criminal case has been completed. The case has been submitted to the supervising prosecutor for approval and further court proceedings.

It is noteworthy that a suspect or accused in a criminal act is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to the law, as established by a legally binding court verdict in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia.
