Chalabyan Suspected of Offering 2 Million AMD to Student Council President for Recruiting Students to Protests

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has launched a criminal case under the second part of Article 163, part 3 of the Criminal Code regarding the bribery of the President of the Student Council of the National Agrarian University of Armenia in exchange for the participation of students in opposition rallies.

According to the Committee, on May 9, 2022, a recording was published on one of the news websites, claiming, "1000 AMD for each student, the representative from the Agrarian University is urging the student council president to organize and ensure students’ participation in opposition rallies, proposing 1000 AMD for each student."

The preliminary investigation has revealed that individuals allegedly committing this crime offered financial incentives to the President of the Student Council of the National Agrarian University to recruit students for protests organized by the political opposition, proposing a total of 2,000,000 AMD in exchange for involving 2000 students.

During the investigation, Avetik Chalabyan, a resident of Yerevan, has been arrested on suspicion of committing the aforementioned criminal act. Necessary investigative and procedural actions are underway to clarify all the circumstances of the case.
