The Major's Charges in the Case of a Pregnant Woman's Fatal Hit-and-Run Will Be Updated
The Prosecutor's Office demands that the charges against police officer Aram Navasardyan in the case of the fatal hit-and-run involving a pregnant woman, Sona Mnatsakanyan, on Leo-Paronyan highway, be completed and that he also be charged for leaving the scene of the incident.
As previously reported, this tragic event occurred on April 26 at the intersection of Leo and Paronyan streets. A police vehicle escorting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's convoy struck the pregnant woman, and according to eyewitnesses, did not even stop the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
However, the Investigative Committee only charged the police major under part 2 of Article 242 of the Armenian Criminal Code, without addressing the aspect of leaving the scene. The Office of the Prosecutor General informed Factinfo that on May 2, 2022, the prosecutor overseeing the criminal case decided not to pursue criminal charges against A. Navasardyan under part 1 of Article 244 of the Armenian Criminal Code and lifted the decision regarding the measure of restraint, which had called for a signature not to leave.
