Spokesperson for the President of Artsakh on General Karapetyan's Arrest

On May 10, at around 19:00, gunshots were heard in the "Revival" square of Stepanakert, resulting in damage to a vehicle belonging to a resident of the city. Following the incident, official statements from the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Artsakh reported that investigative and procedural actions were immediately undertaken. Based on the results, a criminal case was initiated, and a citizen of the Republic of Artsakh, identified as S.K., was arrested on suspicion of committing the alleged crime.

The media has already confirmed that the citizen S.K. is Hero of Artsakh, Major General Samvel Karapetyan. However, various news outlets have published conflicting reports suggesting that the information regarding General Karapetyan's arrest may not be accurate.

To clarify the circulating rumors, Artsakhpress reached out to the spokesperson for the President of Artsakh, Lusine Avanesyan, who stated: "The Hero of Artsakh, Samvel Karapetyan, has been arrested in connection with the criminal case initiated regarding the gunshots in the ‘Revival’ square of Stepanakert on May 10. The case falls under the jurisdiction of law enforcement authorities. Although the President of Artsakh received petitions supporting Mr. Karapetyan in the past hours and highly values his contributions to the defense of the Homeland, he is not authorized to intervene in the work of law enforcement agencies. In the Republic of Artsakh, everyone is equal before the law, and in this regard, the President has repeatedly declared that there should be no privileged individuals in Artsakh," said Avanesyan.
