Iran Set to Increase Taxes on Armenian Exporters
Iran will charge an additional customs duty of $120 on vehicles with Armenian license plates. This information has been reported by Iranian media, referencing the Islamic Republic of Iran's Road Freight Transport and Services Organization, as conveyed by Sputnik.
According to Iranian sources, starting from May 21, vehicles with Armenian license plates entering Iran will incur this $120 fee. The Iranian side justifies this decision by pointing out that since 2018, Armenia has been charging customs duties on Iranian vehicles, and since 2021, it unilaterally revoked the possibility of unloading and loading Iranian vehicles at the Meghri customs terminal.
Iranian sources remind that Iran has repeatedly raised the issue of high taxes in Armenia, which has resulted in Iranian freight carriers preferring not to enter Armenian territory. The matter is that in 2018, the Armenian government made a decision to not collect taxes from Iranian freight carriers if they are located within 1 kilometer of the Armenian border. After this decision, Iranian trucks predominantly carry out unloading beyond the border.
