Yerevan Agrees that the Demarcation Commission Will Be Led by Deputy Prime Ministers: Bayramov
The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, has announced a reached agreement with Yerevan regarding the composition of the joint commission on the delimitation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. The information was reported by RIA Novosti.
Bayramov clarified that the first meeting of the commission was intended to take place by the end of April, after which two phone conversations were held with Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
“The Azerbaijani proposal was that the commission should be organized in a different format, meaning that the person who would lead the commission should be a deputy prime minister. During the first phone conversation, the Armenian Foreign Minister accepted this understanding, stating that additional time was needed in Armenia to discuss this proposal. Later, the Armenian side announced that this proposal was acceptable to them,” Bayramov said to journalists.
According to him, there is an agreement between the sides regarding the composition of the commission. “The Azerbaijani side was already prepared to hold this meeting in April. Once the Armenian side completes its procedures, the meeting can be conducted,” the minister added.
Previously, the Armenian government had announced that during the meeting between Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev in Brussels on April 6, they instructed their foreign ministries to prepare for peaceful negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. An agreement was also reached to establish a bilateral commission on delimitation issues concerning the Armenia-Azerbaijan border by the end of April, in accordance with the November 26, 2021 Sochi Agreement.
