Arthur Martirosov Detained in Azerbaijan Establishes Contact with His Family

Arthur Martirosov, who was detained on the Azerbaijani side on April 23 of this year, has established contact with his family through the Red Cross, said Zara Amatuni, the communication program manager of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Armenia, in an interview with 168.am. She noted that Red Cross representatives visited Arthur Martirosov, who is being held in Baku, on April 30.

“I can confirm that on April 30, our organization's representatives visited Arthur Martirosov in Azerbaijan. During the visit, he was registered. This is the first step usually taken to prevent any further potential disappearances. Martirosov was given the opportunity to contact his family via a letter from the Red Cross. I believe we will be able to visit him again periodically, along with other detained individuals. That’s all for now,” said Amatuni.

It is worth recalling that on April 23, during his journey from the military base to a combat post, communication was lost with the conscript private Edward Arthur Martirosov from military unit N. According to the Ministry of Defense, search and rescue operations were immediately initiated. With the mediation of the Russian side, cooperation was carried out with representatives of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, which revealed that E. Martirosov had crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani border under unknown circumstances on the same day and is on the Azerbaijani side. The Azerbaijani side presented private Arthur Martirosov as a “diversionist,” which was denied by the Ministry of Defense in an official statement.
