The ‘Zangezur Corridor’ is Already a Reality: Aliyev
In the visible future, all liberated territories of Nagorno-Karabakh (Republic of Artsakh) will be restored, and the first area where displaced people will be able to return will be Zangeilan (Kovsakan). A pilot project for the reconstruction of the village of Agali is being implemented there, which will later serve as a basis for the revival of other settlements. This was announced by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as reported by info24.ru.
Aliyev also noted that the international airport in Zangeilan (Kovsakan) will be commissioned this year. “I am confident that this airport will have very significant functions. Because we see Zangeilan (Kovsakan) as a future international transport and logistics center. This will be ensured by the geographical position of the area, proximity to international markets, and other factors.
As for the ‘Zangezur Corridor,’ this corridor is already a reality. Both the railway and the highway passing through the territory of Zangeilan (Kovsakan) will not only connect the main part of Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic but will also become a new route for international cargo transportation, there will be international routes. Therefore, at the same time, for the convenience of former internally displaced persons, we are rapidly constructing highways with four and six lanes. The phased operation of this road will start next year,” Aliyev stated.
