Hovsepyan's Detention Request to be Discussed Tomorrow
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, today rejected the motion for the recusal of the judge submitted by the defense team of former Prosecutor General of Armenia and former head of the Investigative Committee, Agvan Hovsepyan.
The defense presented as grounds for recusal the fact that the criminal case was assigned by the court president by hand, which, according to them, compromised objectivity.
According to the indictment, it has been substantiated through the combination of evidence obtained in the criminal case that Agvan Hovsepyan, while holding the positions of Prosecutor General of Armenia from 2004 to 2013 and head of the Investigative Committee from 2014 to 2018, engaged in activities related to organizations founded by A. S., with whom he had close ties, despite a legal prohibition, from 2007 to 2015. This involvement was connected with providing advantages and benefits to these organizations and other forms of patronage.
As a result of this illegal activity, Agvan Hovsepyan is accused of legalizing particularly large sums of property obtained through criminal means. He is also attributed with other alleged criminal acts. Hovsepyan does not accept the charges against him.
