Russia Begins Assault on Azovstal Plant

Russian forces are attempting to assault the Azovstal plant in Mariupol with armored vehicles. According to unian.net, two civilian women were killed as a result of an airstrike.

This information was shared during an informational television marathon by the commander of the 12th Operational Brigade of the National Guard, Denis Shlegen. “The situation at Azovstal has significantly worsened; throughout the night, artillery, naval guns, and aircraft have been targeting the plant. I must report sad news—two civilian women were killed during an airstrike at one of the bunkers. In the morning, the enemy is trying to assault the Azovstal plant using armored vehicles. Our soldiers are bravely repelling all attacks,” he stated, detailing that there are around 500 injured and nearly 200 civilians in the plant, including 20 children, so it is necessary to expedite evacuation efforts.

On May 1, the evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol began. On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that around 100 people were transferred to Zaporizhzhia. According to Mariupol Mayor Vadim Boychenko, more than 100 civilians were brought out from the bomb shelters at Azovstal on May 2.
