Police Said: We Know You Are a Deputy, But We Have an Order to Detain You - Aram Vardevanyan

During peaceful acts of civil disobedience, police approached us, and two of them decided to detain me as well. This was stated by Aram Vardevanyan, a deputy from the "Armenia" faction, during a press briefing at France Square.

Vardevanyan believes that these two police officers had no connection to the police system.

"One of the policemen probably slipped and fell due to the rain; I fell as well, at that moment I said, 'Isn't it shameful?' and those two police officers replied, 'What is shameful? We are detaining you.' I told them in the car that they were committing a crime by detaining a deputy, to which they responded, 'Mr. Vardevanyan, we know you are a deputy, but we have orders.' Shortly thereafter, the police commander's assistant came and asked me to get out; it turned out they didn’t even know what I was doing in that car and pulled me out," said Vardevanyan.

He noted that a similar incident also occurred concerning deputy Ashot Simonian.

Vardevanyan also referred to the actions taken by Chief of Police Sargsyan Hovhannisyan against representatives of the media, mentioning that lawyer Vahan Hovhannisyan has filed a report in connection with that incident.
