Gerasim Vardanyan is being isolated, he is at the NSS: Vardanyan on the arrest of the MP's assistant

“They are trying to isolate him. There is no room for interpretation here,” stated Kristine Vardanyan, a member of the Armenian National Assembly representing the Armenia bloc, in an interview with Aravot.am regarding the facts surrounding the detention of Gerasim Vardanyan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and the Armenia bloc, who was taken into custody today and arrested under a criminal case initiated in November 2020 by the NSS investigative department.

The media outlet asked whether the timing of the request to detain Gerasim Vardanyan, which is connected to the mass disturbances that took place on the night of November 9-10, 2020, is related to the recent mass protests involving Vardanyan. Kristine Vardanyan replied, “For a rational person, there can be no two opinions on this matter, because it has been almost two years since the events of November 2020. It is very interesting if anyone can provide a logical answer as to why the police have decided right now, when mass protests are gaining momentum in Yerevan and throughout Armenia, to arrest those individuals who are at the forefront of these protests, organizing and actively participating in them. As the saying goes, there are no coincidences. It is clear to a conscious person that these are yet another pathetic attempts to suppress people’s rightful anger.”

Kristine Vardanyan noted that if there has been any violation of the law, a straightforward logical question arises: why is this person being arrested now for something that happened during the events of November 9-10?

It is worth recalling that on the night of November 9-10, 2020, an attempt was made to break into the “Liberty” office, causing damage to the doors and shouting insults at the staff. According to “Liberty,” the individuals stated, “We came to take the servers so that you would not go on air. You are traitors, Turks, you will not go on air.” Among those trying to break into the office was Gerasim Vardanyan, a member of the ARF's Nikol Aghbalyan Student Union.
