France Reveals Whether It Will Pay Russia in Rubles for Gas
France opposes paying Russia in rubles for gas, stating that such a move contradicts previously agreed contracts. This announcement was made today by the French Minister for Ecological Affairs while commenting on Gazprom's suspension of supplies to Bulgaria and Poland, who refused to pay for gas in rubles.
“Today, during negotiations in Brussels, we intend to express solidarity with our European partners and remind them of the contractual rules that cannot be violated arbitrarily. We will continue to pay in euros or dollars, in accordance with the contracts,” he said during an interview on BFM TV.
The minister emphasized that decisions regarding payments in currencies other than euros could only be made at the European level. Pompili also noted that EU countries are continuing to develop measures that will allow them to reduce their dependence on Russian supplies.
