Do Not Restrict Students' Right to Free Expression: Professors Initiate Petition
Professors from various universities in Armenia have condemned the violence exhibited by police officers towards students. They have initiated a petition demanding the cessation of the use of force against students and, in general, the non-restriction of their right to free expression.
“We, the professors from various universities in Armenia, strongly condemn the violence directed at students by police officers. By participating in peaceful demonstrations, students are fighting for a dignified future for all of us, for a stable and secure Armenia, making significant contributions to the development of a citizen-centered civic culture in Armenia. We demand the cessation of the use of force against students and, in general, the non-restriction of their right to free expression,” declared Vahe Davtyan, a professor at the Russian-Armenian University and an associate professor at Brusov State University, who disseminated the announcement.
The petition has been joined by candidate of political sciences, Yerevan State University associate professor Vladimir Martirosyan, associate professor Arthur Ghazinyan from YSU’s Department of European and International Law, associate professor Haik Farmanyan from YSU’s Department of Financial Accounting and the Armenian State University of Economics, lecturer Tamara Zalinyan from the Russian-Armenian University, and a group of other professors.
