The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has commented on the visit of American actress Angelina Jolie to Ukraine, noting that it was organized to distract attention from Azovstal, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Earlier, American media reported that Angelina Jolie, who is a special envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, was in Lviv as part of a 'personal' visit.

According to Zakharova, Ukrainian forces are 'holding civilians hostage' in Azovstal, preventing them from leaving, despite the constant statements from the Russian Ministry of Defense about humanitarian corridors guaranteeing their safety.

'However, under these circumstances, the “Western PR geniuses” are calling in Angelina Jolie,' said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
