Aliyev: They used to say 'Nagorno-Karabakh is Armenia,' now they say 'Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan'

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, stated during a meeting with participants of the international conference "South Caucasus: Development and Cooperation" that the principles of international law must be fair to all countries, as reported by minval.az.

"We support Ukraine's territorial integrity, as do other countries, and we openly declare this—we do not hide behind a tree. Yes, we do not deny that we have good relations with Russia. The principles of international law must never be distorted for political priorities," he said.

Aliyev noted that the international community has been selective in its approach to Azerbaijan regarding its territorial integrity. "Even before the events in Ukraine, the international community openly supported the territorial integrity of Georgia and Moldova. But when it came to us, the message was: 'Sign a peace treaty with Armenia.' But how can you make peace with an aggressor that has occupied your lands? We tried to achieve this for 17 years, only to find that it was impossible. The more we tried to reach peace, the more aggressive the aggressor became. Armenia had already begun to threaten us with a new war, saying 'Nagorno-Karabakh is Armenia,' and now they say 'Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan.' And who is saying this? The same people who called Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian in 2019. We have created new realities with our own hands—thanks to our strength and our spirit," emphasized Aliyev.
