New Incentive for Families with 6 or More Children
The government, in its meeting today on April 28, established the rules and amount for providing a monthly honorarium to individuals awarded with the Parental Glory Medal.
The justification for this decision states that since independence, the number of large families has significantly decreased due to a difficult socio-economic situation and insufficient support from social guarantees. Currently, there are very few families in Armenia with 6 or more children. In 2020, the total number of births for the 6th child and beyond was 162, which accounted for only 0.4 percent of the total births recorded that year.
Prior to this decision, there was no other incentive provided for parental couples with 6 or more children who were awarded the Parental Glory Medal, and this amendment aims to fill that gap.
Following the adoption of this project, a proposal will be presented to reduce 8,000,000 AMD from the Armenian state budget program "1011. Support for Low-Income Social Groups" to fund the new measure "12004. Monthly Honorarium for Individuals Awarded with the Parental Glory Medal" under the "1005. Awards and Honorariums" program. This funding will allow for the payment of 100,000 AMD per month to each of the 10 beneficiaries awarded the Parental Glory Medal from 2014 to 2021 during the months of May to December 2022 (calculated based on double the minimum value of the Armenian consumer basket, which is 49,600 AMD).
The issue of increasing financial resources for the monthly honorarium for individuals awarded with the Parental Glory Medal will be discussed within the budgetary process of each subsequent year.
