Citizen Who Rescued Child from Debed Awarded

On April 27, a ceremonial event for the graduation of students from the State Academy of Crisis Management was held at the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Before the awards were presented, Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Pambukhchyan introduced guests to Zhiraer Poghosyan, a resident of Alaverdi who recently risked his life to rescue a 2-year-old child from the Debed River and transported him to the Alaverdi Medical Center.

"I find it very symbolic to honor and thank Zhiraer Poghosyan specifically during this ceremony. Here are the students of the Crisis Management Academy who are graduating, and may choose the profession of rescuer. This is a vivid example of what a rescuer should be like, and what kind of consciousness a person should have to exhibit such behavior," said the minister.

Zhiraer Poghosyan, who works in road construction, does not rule out that he may decide to join the ranks of rescuers in the future. Currently, one thing concerns him—the health of the child.

"I went to help the child. The only thing I thought about was saving him. When he was already in my arms, my hands were shaking; I don’t even know how I drove the car. It was a debt that I fulfilled. Now I am only waiting for good news about the child: I will definitely visit him today or tomorrow," he said.

Armen Pambukhchyan informed that the child is currently in the 'Holy Mother of God' Medical Center, where there is positive progress and the child's life is not in danger.
