Arthur Davtyan May Be Nominated Again: What Developments Are There?
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that "the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Arthur Davtyan, is one of the few officials who has not been removed from office since the velvet revolution of 2018. He continues to serve in his position until now. Davtyan was appointed to this post during the rule of the Republican Party of Armenia in September 2016, and his six-year term will conclude in September.
Despite discussions in recent months suggesting that he might resign before the end of his term, different sentiments are now emerging. "Zhoghovurd" had previously reported about this, indicating a conversation between him and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
It is noteworthy that the current environment has changed, and it is possible that after the end of his term, Davtyan may be nominated for the position once again by the ruling Civil Contract party (CP), as the law allows for this possibility.
Specifically, Article 35 of the Law on Prosecution states: "The Prosecutor General is elected by the National Assembly on the proposal of the relevant standing committee, with at least three-fifths of the votes of the total number of deputies for a term of six years. The same person may not be elected Prosecutor General for more than two consecutive terms." This means that Arthur Davtyan could be nominated again after the end of his current term.
