62-Year-Old Man Dies from Assault in Yerevan: Relatives Attempted to Mislead Police
An extraordinary incident occurred in Yerevan on April 25. Around 1:10 AM, the Emergency Medical Service's fourth station received a call from the Erebuni police department reporting that the previous day, at approximately 11:30 PM, a medical team responded to a call at a residence on Nor Arej Street, where they found a deceased man. His relatives claimed that he had suddenly died in their presence.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, an operational group from the Erebuni police department, led by Chief Armen Gasparyan, was dispatched to the hospital. The police established that the deceased was a 62-year-old resident of the same street, identified as Armen M.
Preliminary conclusions from the forensic examination revealed scratches on the deceased's forehead, outside the left eye socket, on the bridge of the nose, and on the scalp.
While Police Chief of Erebuni was clarifying the details at the hospital, another operational group led by Deputy Chief of Operations Senik Yeranosyan headed to the deceased's residence, where the relatives informed the police that he had sustained the injuries from a fall.
According to G. Shamshyan's information, the Erebuni police officers did not accept the relatives' explanation, and the criminal investigation department, under the supervision of Chief A. Gasparyan and Deputy S. Yeranosyan, conducted extensive work, revealing discrepancies in the relatives' account.
Operational data suggested that on April 24, around 8:20 PM, residents of Yerevan, 51-year-old Hakob G. and his 24-year-old son Khachatur G., engaged in a dispute with Armen M., during which they struck him with their feet and hands on his head and various parts of his body, inflicting injuries and leaving him helpless before fleeing the scene. Armen M. subsequently died some time later.
