Zelensky Comments on Azerbaijan and Turkey's Position on Ukraine
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has commented on the mediating role of Azerbaijan and Turkey in the negotiation process, reports TSN.
According to Zelensky, he has held discussions with the presidents of both countries regarding the mediation mission. This was mentioned by the head of state during a press conference with foreign and Ukrainian journalists on Saturday.
The leader of the country noted that Turkey openly declares its willingness to be among the guarantors of Ukraine's security, while he has not yet received such a response from Azerbaijan.
“We have good relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan. But I would share this because, ultimately, diplomatic meetings of our subgroups are currently taking place in Turkey. Turkey is showing that it wants to be a leader among countries willing to mediate. Turkey openly states that it will be and wants to be among the security guarantors. I have really not heard anything like this from Azerbaijan,” Zelensky stated.
At the same time, the state leader emphasized that Azerbaijan supports Ukraine in various ways. Zelensky noted that the Ukrainian side has received both humanitarian and medical assistance from Azerbaijan.
“But I want to tell you that President Aliyev has always supported Ukraine. There has been humanitarian aid, there has been medical assistance. I think it is difficult for Azerbaijan to assist Ukraine in terms of weapons today. This can be understood, as they have Nagorno-Karabakh. Yes, this is a historic and very complicated issue. Perhaps this is one of the few countries where we understand the balance of neutrality. I understand why, because a war could start right now. But in any case, we expect more—long-term understanding is not possible,” the President of Ukraine stated.
