Denial and Indifference Are a Green Light for Turkey and Azerbaijan: Artsakh Ombudsman
The Ombudsman of the Republic of Artsakh, Gegham Stepanyan, has issued a message on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. In the message, he states:
“The Armenian Genocide is not an act directed against humanity that took place in a specific historical period—it is the constant goal of the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem, expressed at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century in Western Armenia, in various locations in Soviet Azerbaijan at the end of the 20th century, and in Artsakh in the fall of 2020. It is a systematically, consistently executed policy by two Turkish states with the same motives of annihilating Armenians and Armenian identity, the same ideology of hatred and total intolerance towards Armenians, and the same means of torture, cruelty, murder, dispossession, and exile.
Denial and the hesitance of responsible parties in various countries and international organizations, as well as indifference driven by political and economic interests, serve as a green light for Turkey and Azerbaijan to continue executing their criminal objectives.
For us Armenians, the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide more than a century later remains a testament to our persistent aspiration for justice, which is non-negotiable. I remember and demand.”
