UN: No Evidence of Russia Committing Genocide in Ukraine

The UN Human Rights Commissioner’s Office has no evidence that Russia has committed acts of genocide in Ukraine. This statement was made by the office's official representative, Ravina Shamdasani, during a press briefing in Geneva on April 22.

“We do not have information indicating that genocide has occurred,” she stated.

On April 12, U.S. President Joe Biden declared while speaking to reporters that the events in Ukraine seemed to him to be genocide. The U.S. leader emphasized that the legal assessment of the situation should be made by lawyers. Prior to this, he had made similar remarks in a speech in Iowa.

In response to Biden’s comments about genocide, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kremlin completely disagrees with those statements. He also deemed the rhetoric of the leader of a country whose bombs have killed hundreds of thousands of people worldwide as unacceptable and unforgivable, according to TASS.
