Will Scholz Resign? Spiegel

Olaf Scholz may face resignation due to issues surrounding the supply of weapons to Ukraine. According to the German magazine Spiegel, the prime minister's position has now weakened. Scholz will likely have to request a vote of confidence from the parliament if the opposition decides to vote in favor of providing weapons to Ukraine.

Friedrich Merz, the leader of the German Christian Democratic Union, may introduce a proposal next week for supplying heavy weapons to Kyiv.

As previously mentioned, the Bundeswehr has at least twice reduced the list of weapons to be exported to Ukraine. Notably, according to the German newspaper Bild, heavy weaponry has been removed from the list.

As clarified by Chancellor Olaf Scholz's office, such changes have been made at the initiative of the country's senior leadership, including German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

It is worth recalling that Zelensky had categorically refused to meet with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Kyiv, accusing him of being too lenient towards Russia.
