Austria Completely Abandons Russian Oil

Austrian has completely stopped purchasing Russian oil since the onset of Russia's military operations in Ukraine. This was reported by the newspaper Kurier, citing a representative of OMV Group.

“The volumes of purchasing oil from Russia have always been very low, and since the war began, we have replaced it with oil from other markets,” the newspaper quoted the representative of the Austrian company.

According to data from the country's Statistical Office and the Oil Industry Association, in 2021, only 7.8 percent or 596 thousand tons of Austria's oil imports came from Russia. Moreover, Kazakhstan has been the most important supplier of oil to Austria for many years, accounting for 38.9 percent of total imports. Libya is in second place (22.1 percent), and Iraq comes in third (20.7 percent), as reported by Interfax.
