Some Russian Banks Unable to Issue Chinese UnionPay Cards

Russian banks that have been sanctioned will not be able to issue cards from the Chinese UnionPay payment system, reports НТВ.

According to sources, the payment system is hesitant to collaborate with these banks due to the risk of secondary sanctions. As a result, Sberbank had planned to issue UnionPay cards but decided to abandon these plans because of the Chinese system's decision.

Alfa-Bank, Otkritie, VTB, and Promsvyazbank also considered the possibility of issuing UnionPay cards. UnionPay continues to cooperate with banks that have not been sanctioned.
