Azerbaijanis from Around the World to Gather in the 'Unfortunate, Dull City' of Shushi – Voskanyan Sargsyan

Journalist Voskanyan Sargsyan's statement: 'Azerbaijanis from around the world will gather in the 'unfortunate, dull city' of Shushi. On November 16, 2020, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared in the National Assembly, 'Shushi was an unfortunate, dull city, did we need Shushi? If we did, why was it in that condition?' Shushi is very important to Azerbaijan, having been declared the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.

This April, the fifth congress of Azerbaijanis from around the world will take place in Shushi. This is stated in a message released by the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora of Azerbaijan on April 18. Delegates to the congress will first gather in Baku and then proceed to Shushi. It is expected that around 400 representatives from the diaspora from 65 countries will participate in the event.

After the official ceremony, a report on the activities of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora will be presented, followed by discussions on topics such as 'Challenges Facing the Azerbaijani Diaspora in the Post-War Period' and 'The Contribution of the Azerbaijani Diaspora to the Restoration and Reconstruction of Karabakh.' The first congress of Azerbaijanis around the world took place in 2001 and is held every five years; all previous congresses have been held in Baku.'
