Which Armenian Territories Under Azerbaijan's Control Did Pashinyan Discuss? Details from His Office
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan believes that if Azerbaijan's proposed "Zangezur Corridor" becomes a reality, Armenia will face issues of territorial integrity. This was mentioned in a response from the Prime Minister's Office addressed to "Azatutyun," as reported by "Azatutyun".
On April 13, during a speech in the National Assembly discussing the 2021 Government Program's performance report, Pashinyan stated, "I could not convince myself partly because I realized that Robert Kocharyan was not exaggerating when he claimed that Armenia also has territorial integrity issues."
"Azatutyun" had sent an inquiry to the Prime Minister's Office requesting clarification on what the head of government meant.
The response indicated, "The Prime Minister was referring to the fact that during the early 1990s, during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, Armenia also experienced territorial losses. Moreover, in 2021, the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia was violated as a result of the incursion of Azerbaijani units into the Sotk-Khoznavar area of Armenia's sovereign territory."
When asked if Armenia would have issues of territorial integrity if Azerbaijan's proposed "Zangezur Corridor" were implemented, the brief answer was "yes."
Additionally, we had requested clarification on whether the Prime Minister was referring to the issue of the Armenian enclave that existed in Azerbaijan during the Soviet years while discussing Armenia's territorial integrity.
"Yes, referring to the Artsvashen enclave and the fact that several dozen kilometers of Armenian territory from the Tavush region and thousands of hectares of arable land are under Azerbaijan's control," the response stated.
