The Process of Acquiring Firearms Will Be Simplified, Several Requirements Will Be Lifted: Gabrielyan's Proposal
Officially, I have introduced the draft law on the regulation of the circulation of firearms in the Republic of Armenia. This was announced by Vilén Gabrielyan, a member of the National Assembly’s Civil Contract faction, on his Facebook page.
According to the draft, the age for obtaining permission to acquire civilian firearms is set at 21 years. The mandatory requirement to be a member of a hunting association for acquiring firearms is canceled. The 5-year requirement to have a smoothbore firearm in order to acquire a rifled firearm is also abolished. The foundations for mandatory testing for firearm acquisition are being established. The limitation on the number of cartridges is lifted. The types of firearms are clarified. The standards for shooting ranges are set.
The validity period for permits to acquire, keep, carry, and transport firearms will be set at 10 years, increased from the previous 5 years. The validity period for licenses related to the manufacture, import, export, and trade of firearms will be set at 5 years, up from the previous 3 years. Individuals will be allowed to acquire up to 10 units of civilian firearms, increased from the previous restriction of 5 units. The permission to form collections of firearms will become indefinite.
