We Want Summer Schools to Exist, We Need to Communicate with Our Neighbors: Vahram Dumanyan
The issue of teaching the languages of neighboring countries in Armenia's schools remains on the agenda of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports. This was stated by Minister Vahram Dumanyan during a briefing with journalists after today's government meeting.
"In general, there is a principle that we should be familiar with both the languages and the cultures of our neighboring countries," he said, adding that there is already a clear approach regarding the teaching of Georgian.
The minister urged not to look for any other intention behind this decision. According to him, it aims purely at educational and friendly communication. "We also want to have summer schools where our school-aged children and young people can engage with their peers. We need to communicate with our neighbors. Isolation will bring us no good," he stated.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia has presented the "State Program for the Development of Education in the Republic of Armenia until 2030" for public discussion, which mentions in the section on "Improvement of Educational Standards and Programs" that the languages of neighboring countries (Persian, Turkish, Georgian, Azerbaijani) will be taught in Armenian schools.
